August 19

And here we are, at the end of summer.  We made it!  It's not always easy with two kids at two very different developmental levels with different needs, but I'm going to call this summer a success.  While Big Brother starts school on Monday, Little Sweetie has two weeks before she heads to Pre-K. I'm hoping that she and I can make a lot of Momma-Daughter memories in those two weeks, but for now I'd like to share her last month of summer.

It's the last days of summer...better take all the lazy morning snuggles we can get!

We finished up July with another camp just for Little Sweetie...dance camp!  She loved it and we really enjoyed her performance at the end of the week.

Lunching in our leotard after dance camp!

Ready for her performance!

Flowers for our beautiful ballerina!  Proud of all the work she did this week!

We also took a quick trip up to Waco to visit with several other Sanfilippo families.  Little Sweetie and a great time swimming and playing with another super sibling and with the other Sanfilippo kiddos!

Swimming party!

I love this picture.  M has Sanfilippo just like Big Brother, but she and Little Sweetie became fast friends.  True friendship can overcome any communication barriers.

A big part of the past month was our San Diego trip, which I wrote about in its own separate post.  After San Diego, we had another fun event...Mimi and Pop-Pop came to visit!  We decided to take them on a field trip the Blue Bell Creamery and then we got to celebrate Mimi's birthday!

Made it to Blue Bell!  We had a great time exploring the museum and watching the ice cream production from the observation deck!

Enjoying the very generous $1 ice cream scoops!  She ate every drop of her chocolate!

Silly girl posing in the gift shop!

Playing on the statues!

Such a fun time with Pop-Pop and Mimi!  And a special hug for Big Brother!

Big hugs from Big Brother too!

Of course, since Little Sweetie is the Chef around here, she had to be in on making Mimi's birthday cake.  And then she decided to let Mimi assist in her dinner preparation too.

Helping Pop-Pop making Mimi's cake.  Aprons were required!

Showing Mimi how to make the herbed cream cheese for the pinwheels!

Rolling up the pinwheels!  She did a great job.

These actually turned out to be pretty delicious!

Of course, we had several other cooking forays this month.  She's really quite comfortable in the kitchen!

Making pancakes with her new pancake molds!

And a Purple Power Smoothie to compliment the pancake and complete our breakfast for dinner menu!

She also made homemade popcorn this month for our movie night!

Height and Weight
Staying strong at 39.6 pounds and just a hair over 41 inches!

Our beautiful girl and her puppy dog!

Personality

She has been singing the Letter People song for Miss O lately and her favorite line is, "I'm Miss O, I'm obstinate, so obstinate!" and if that isn't true!!!!  Someone has really been testing boundaries and seems to be going out of her way to be contrary.  I know it's part of this age, but sometimes she can get PRETTY infuriating!  It seems like everything I say she has to contradict.  We're working on disagreeing respectfully and actually listening to what others are saying.

On the less contrary side, she's also been very fun and goofy, as these pictures with her friend K from Kanga's illustrate.

"OOOO, the kangaroo is eating my hand!"

Developmental Milestones
She's very interested in reading right now and has memorized one of her favorite books (a PJ Mask one) and reads it to us regularly.  Her writing and phonics has really come along, so I see reading being a key feature of this upcoming year.

The library is almost like a second home at the point!  Reading rocks!

In terms of her fine motor, she has been having so much fun with tracing paper and my old tracing books.  I'm pretty impressed with her artistic creations!  She also keeps designing pretty cool structures with our building toys, and lots of attention to detail to fit the imaginary world she's created.

A fully functional zoo with multiple exhibits made out of Magna-tiles!

Fun Tidbits
So many funny Little Sister-isms right now.  First of all, she's obsessed with telling us how big or small each blueberry she eats is.  Seriously. An announcement on size is made prior to early every bite.  In addition to being very interested in the size of her food, she also likes to pretend that "kitchen monkeys" are stealing it, waiting for us to look away so she can eat a bite and then puzzle aloud were said bite went.  It can make dinner go a bit long, but I do enjoy seeing sense of humor and "trickery" develop.

Also, as I was going through pictures for this blog, I was struck with how many pictures I had of Little Sweetie hugging her big brother.  Oh sweet girl, I know sometimes it's hard to have a big brother that's more of a little brother, but I love how much you love him no matter what.

These beautiful siblings!

We'll miss summer, but I'm looking forward to her starting Pre-K.  I have a lot of adventures planned for this year!  This is our last year together before she starts kindergarten; I'm ready to make the most of it.

Until next month,

See You in San Diego!

Summer travel adventures, here we come!  This year's MPS Conference is being held in San Diego, which also happens to be where our dear friends, the D family, live!  Can't wait to see them and our Sanfilippo family!

Of course, the one day he can't sleep in is the one day he sleeps late.  Go figure.  Time to get up for the plane, buddy!

Ready to go!

Excited for the plane!

WILLPower is headed to San Diego!

Checking out San Diego!  We made it!

Saying "Hi!" to friends at the conference!

Awesome Sanfilippo Mommas!

Kisses from poster M!

Little Buddy loved this statue!

Chillin' at the marina!

"Can we go to E's house now?"

After checking in at the conference, we headed over to see the D family!  We were so excited to be reunited with them!

Hugs for Ms. L!

Little Buddy was so excited to see J again!  He immediately lit up and had lots of smiles and hugs for him!  J is such a great friend to our boy.

The girls hit it off immediately and were ready for a slumber party.  Two of the three may have stayed up ALL night!

So good to be united with great friends!

Fun faces!

Love these kids and wish we could be with them more often!

Little Buddy and J watching some Daniel Tiger!

Our best attempt at getting 6 kids to look/smile at one time!

And then it was time to head back to the conference.  So much going on!  The kids hung out in Camp Courage while Momma and Daddy went to sessions and met with other families.

Little Buddy featured on a poster about kids still needing treatments.

Hanging with friends!

While the kids are in Camp Courage, the parents will have a kid-free dinner!

N and Little Buddy!

They had a really nice outdoor reception at the conference that evening too.

Enjoying the evening!

Lots of work to be done at the conference, including a few focus groups for the Foundation.

Ready to gather data!

While Momma did some work, the kids enjoyed dinner with Daddy!

Little Buddy's excited to have dinner with Daddy!

Little Sister's mean-mugging for the camera.

Beautiful San Diego!

Love our friends from all over!

Lots of fun at the painting station!

Hanging by the pool with great friends!

The kids had so much fun in Camp Courage with Coach J!

The conference always ends with a banquet.  This year it was a Super Heroes theme and we had so much fun being with our Sanfilippo family.  It's just nice to be with people who intrinsically get you and your situation.

Little Buddy was so excited to see Spiderman...

..until he locked eyes with Spiderwoman!

It was love!

Sanfilippo family dinner!

The kids didn't want to let Mr. J from Camp Courage go!

Little Buddy and his friend Ms. L from Sweden!

Loving on Ms. A!

Little Sister was starting to get pretty silly at the end!

So lucky to have these people in our lives!

Little Buddy and L!

Little Buddy and O!

So much Sanfilippo love right here!

For our last full day in San Diego, the D family met us for the MPS 5K and then we headed to the beach!

WILLPower is ready(ish) to run!

Ms. L and Mr. R took second place over all for Women's and Men's categories!

Congrats to Daddy on a good race!

They could not get enough of these super heroes!

Ran into Z!

Blessed by this family's friendship!

Little Sweetie made a wish before we left.  I don't know her wish, but I know what mine was.

Ready to check out of the hotel and head to the beach!

Other than a man trying to contend that Little Buddy wasn't handicapped enough to have a handicap tag, we had great fun in the Pacific Ocean!

To the ocean!

Found the ocean!

Little Buddy getting his feet wet!

Dancing with Daddy in the ocean!

Loving the beach!

Bravely heading back to the ocean!

Little Sweetie can't get enough!  She kept pretending to surf.

Little Buddy, hat thief.

Lucky to do all of this life with this guy at my side!

After the beach, we did a quick dinner at a local brewery before turning in for the night.  What a fun, but fast, week!

Love having adventures with these kids!  May there be many more adventures to come!

Happy boy ready to head home!

So there was our trip!  We had a blast but I am happy to get back home and try to get everyone back on schedule.  Such an amazing time with old friends and new, and such wonderful memories made.  Blessed to be able to do this.

Good night,
