May 19

I thought April was busy?!?!  HA!  This is our first May with two school age kids and full activities (we missed out on that the past two years because of Covid) and it has been CRAZY!  Everyday is SOMETHING.  And Little Sweetie has been so excited about pursuing all her interests now that extracurriculars are available again and we're so proud of her, but maybe she is too talented with too many interests, lol!

Track and Chess have thankfully finished, but Swim Team has started up, so no real respite yet.  But we've been so proud of how hard she's worked with her new activities!

Really gave it her all during her first elementary track season!

Little Sweetie seems to really love Chess!  Her first chess tournament was a learning experience, but she did win one of her matches and is still very committed to learning and improving her game.

A win!

Second graders doing more chess in between rounds.

Going over her matches with Coach James.  Proud of our team!

Second graders!

Little Sweetie and one of her best buddies, T!

We were very grateful this year that we got to celebrate the return of extracurriculars at the Booster Club's Sports Banquet.  It ran pretty late, but these friends didn't mind the extra time to hang out together!

Besties:  G, Little Sweetie, & T.

Begin adorable 2nd graders at the Banquet.  Even C joined in!

Elementary Track!

Chess Club!

Tired girl who stayed up too late because of her Sports Banquet!

Not that the Sports Banquet meant we were done with sports...oh no, now it's time for swimming!  While it was rough to transition right from track practices and meets into swim practices and meets with no break, it seems to have worked for Little Sweetie.  She amazed us and herself with her swim progress since last year and we think the endurance she built up during track really helped!

First meet success with PRs in each of her events and a 1st in breast and a 3rd in butterfly!

However, the first swim meet may have worn her out!

She recovered after a little bit and dove right into a book, lol.

Her hard work even earned her the Swimmer of the Week award!

Besides sports, Little Sweetie has kept very busy with school activities and birthday parties!  I meant it when I said all events were back in swing this spring!

Art contest entry!

Little Sweetie and her friend G were a featured duet in the school Fine Arts Showcase!

Chosen to read during School Mass.

Skating party for one of her best friends, G!

Pottery painting party for another bestie, T!

Another (mostly) fun moment this month was the total lunar eclipse!  Little Sweetie was so excited to see it and begged us to set up her telescope and wake her up in time to view it.  However, her tune was a little different at 10:30 PM.  Ha!  It took a lot of coaxing and carrying, but she did wake up and come down to see the eclipse.  But she was very happy to be carried back to her nice, comfy bed!

Super Flower Blood Moon!

Ready to get back to bed!

Height and Weight
Little Sweetie is staying consistent at 61 lbs. this month and up to about 51.3 inches now!

Mother's Day with Big Brother and Little Sweetie!

Personality
Just happy and eager and joyful.  Eight is really one of the best ages.  She's herself and unafraid to be who she is and we love it.

Rocking her coonskin cap and her hand-me-down base layer.  In Texas.  In May.  Because why not?

Developmental Milestones
As I wrote above, she's just making leaps and bounds in all her interests and activities.  She's inquisitive and is continually thinking of ideas and solutions to problems.  Her mind is always at work and it's wonderful to witness.

Enjoying a lazy Sunday morning with comics and donuts!

Fun Tidbits
It's almost First Communion time, but first Little Sweetie had to make her First Reconciliation.  She was nervous but did great and was so happy to see her friends there too!

Proud of her!

School ends next week and then I get all day, every day with girl!

Good night,
