May 19

And the pandemic world keeps turning and we go right along with it!  I'd say it's been a wild ride, but the mundanity of it makes it tough to describe it that way.  We just keep on keeping on the best we can.  Little Sister and I have been enjoying the kindergarten assignments though!

Because at-home school is going to be a long-term reality for awhile, we did bump up one of our fall plans for Little Sweetie to now.  Someone now has her own big girl desk and workspace!

She's loving her new BLUE desk!

Math time!  Lots of addition and attraction!

We like using hands on materials to understand our math concepts!

Taking math on the road with workbooks!

Momma has a lot of kids' science books, so we've been doing lots of science experiments!

Engineering a "robot dog" out of recycled materials!

Sorting rocks by size, color, and type.

Learning about the rock cycle with Starburst candy!

Making s'mores with our solar oven!

Observing a collusion of oil and water.

Learning about the solar system!

Checking to see what is magnetic and what isn't!

Experimenting with color and surface tension!

Experimenting with sunscreen!

In Social Studies, we talked about resources, wants, needs, community helpers...so much!

Momma may have also added in a little Oregon Trail history for fun!  ;)

Art has also been a big favorite around here!

Working upside down like Michelangelo!

Nature art!  This one is "Boat Coming into Dock."

Installation/interactive art with non-traditional materials...Astronaut and her Rocket!

Drawing the Eiffel Tower!

Monet-inspired water color!

We also try to add a lot of creative time during the day and some fun electives!

Finished her Grand Prix car in woodshop with Daddy!

LEGOS during Centers time has been a big hit!

And, as always, Little Sister has been doing A LOT of cooking.  Cooking works so many skills!

Churro muffins!

Apple tart!

Make-your-own pasta bake!

It was also Teacher Appreciation Week, so we sent in some pictures to her kindergarten teacher to thank her for all the hard work that she's done to make at-home learning successful!

Thank you, Ms. M!

We also got to say hello to her teachers and friends during her drive-by school parade!  Little Sweetie loved it!  She has so missed her school.

Height and Weight
Little Sweetie is 49.4 pounds this month and just a hair under 46 inches!

Personality
Happy and playful and still doing well in these crazy times.  Although she has become a bit more clingy to Momma (and a bit more antagonistic to Daddy).  I'm sure a lot of it comes from the emotional processing she's continually doing and I just try to support her and enjoy the extra snuggles and hugs.

The best sight to see when coming home from my morning run.

Developmental Milestones
She's in her last week of at-home schooling and it's been wonderful to witness her reading and her piano playing take off.  We've also noticed her empathy grow.  Little Sweetie understands that the virus could hurt people like her Big Brother, so she's pretty committed to keeping him safe.

Showing our support for Giving Tuesday and basically the sweetest picture of these two ever!

Fun Tidbits
Another quarantine holiday celebration...this time for Mother's Day!  Loved my homemade cards and gifts from these two superheroes and Daddy.

As stressful as it can be right now, the greatest gift is this time together.

The state is starting to open back up, but kids' programs are still closed, so our summer will be more of the same of family together time.  And that's not necessarily a bad thing.  But I will be glad to be done with at-home schooling!

Good night,

LSM
