We finished up Thanksgiving break with some Christmas tree decorating, some play adventures, and some more cooking!
She's old enough, if not tall enough, to help trim the tree this year! Thank goodness for step ladders!
Fun time taking Big Brother to Kanga! Momma is just happy Little Sweetie can entertain herself there so that Momma can keep an eye on Big Brother. There are very few places where I can take both kids by myself!
Her cooking adventures continue! She made meatball and tacos and we also tried something very new...
Churning homemade butter! Prairie bonnet was a necessity because "I'm a little prairie girl churning butter, Momma!"
She did a great job and it was really fun to learn how to make butter. Easy enough that we plan on doing it more!
"I love science!"
As December settled in our minds started to get more focused on preparing on Christmas. There were lots of fun things to do. An extra special treat was being able to have an early Christmas with Mimi, Pop-Pop, Uncle C, and Aunt A. Also, we got to experience Little Sweetie's first Christmas Program.
After admiring Momma's painted Christmas tree, someone decided that she needed one of her very own!
Loved our early Christmas celebration and glad we remembered to get a group picture. Bonus points since it was with Santa!
A little nervous for her school Christmas performance but she did great! I was even more proud of her because her friend G was really nervous, but Little Sweetie held her hand through the entire performance so she wouldn't be scared. I was so proud of her for being a good friend.
All smiles following the show!
Showing off her Christmas gingerbread man from school!
Successful Santa pic! The perfect icing on the Christmas preparation cake!
Hmmm...I wonder what the rest of the Christmas season has in store for us? It's going to be a big one, can't wait to share the surprise!
Someone is wearing a big coat...is that a hint about our upcoming Christmas adventure? :)
Height and Weight
Her weight today was 37 pounds and 39 and 3/4 inches. She's staying steady on the weight and slowing going up in her height.
Love this big girl!
Personality
I've seen a lot of development of empathy and caring this month. Besides her kindness in holding her friend G's hand during her Christmas program at school, she's really been working on how to show love to her big brother. Little Buddy often tries to hug or touch her to show affection, but he is incapable of being gentle so she often shuns these shows of love and I don't blame her. Lately though, she's been trying to initiate hugs and affection showing when Daddy or I are present so that it can be done safely. There have been a lot of family "group hugs" that she has initiated and more hugs with her brother that she initiates when he is calm. This isn't an easy road for a younger sister to travel and I'm proud of seeing how she's adapting to it.
Hugs that warm my heart.
Developmental Milestones
Lots of independence gaining going on right now! "I want to do it" or "I can do it myself" are very common phrases heard in our house and I have to remind myself that she needs to learn to do these things herself even though it takes 10 times longer than if I did them!
She can make her own breakfast now, as long as I am there to open the childproof cabinet doors and help her reach her plates and bowls.
Her gross motor continues to amaze me. She's much stronger and more fearless than I was at her age and she tackles each new talent with gusto.
Trying out a new playground and going for broke. Leaping, pulling herself up, and climbing through made me tired just watching her!
Fun Tidbits
It's actually been cooling down in Texas for the season, which is is crazy! I don't think the kids have worn their long sleeve shirts in almost two year. But we have definitely been taking advantage of the cooler temps.
Revealing in the fact that we can wear sweaters and boots!
"Momma, it's too cold to go anywhere today. Let's stay home." So we did. And she had her first hot chocolate while watching Muppets Christmas Carol and then we had an indoor picnic. So blessed to have these days with her!
With holiday cheer,
LSM
